One, CH Kyleakin Curlew, was bred four times and he appears behind all of the Deerhounds living today at Kyleakin.


Bred to CH Springbank d’Lux of Fairyfort (Spring), Curry produced the beautiful and talented Mika (Ch Highlander’s Beara Mikal CD RE JC AX OAJ NAP OJP) owned, trained and shown by Lisa Dempsy in Fayetteville, Georgia. Lisa and her husband Kevin leased Mika to me to breed to DC Old St. Andrews d’Lux MC, a young male who caught my eye at the big Louisville, KY, Deerhound Supported Entry in March 2002, and the resulting litter of 11 contained my keepers Linnet and Rissa (DC Kyleakin Linnet CDX SC FCh VC and CH Kyleakin Lapwing CDX), both of whom were bred to a handsome male I acquired from Margaret Sudekum in Michigan. I noticed Tally (then CH Utkinton Fitzhugh Talon) at that year’s National Specialty and had been discussing using him with Margaret, who co-owned him with Lee Winet in New York. Tally lived with Lee. When she died unexpectedly later that year, Margaret and I decided to co-own Tally and he came to live with me. He proved to be both a talented lure courser, earning his DC, SC and ASFA FCh, and an excellent stud dog, producing three litters for me from three different bitches. His progeny carry on his passion for the lure (most of the time) and his sound and elegant type. His grandson Ica (CH Fitzhugh Kyleakin Icarus) out of Rissa's daughter Gremlin (DC Kyleakin Gremlin CD MC FCH VC) now takes his place as Kyleakin’s resident male. He won Best Puppy in 2013's Specialty Futurity, BOB at the Bluegrass Classic Deerhound Supported entry in Sept. '14, finished at the Louisville 2015 Midwest Regional Specialty by going BOW for an unneeded five point major, and is getting even better as he matures.

Linnet’s daughter Falcon CH Kyleakin Gyrfalcon CD, bred to GCH DC Altnamara’s Cappuccino SC, for his calm self-possession and passion for chasing the lure, produced Ra and Torry (DC Kyleakin Lahar CDX MC FCh VC and CH Kyleakin Tornado SC), who are in line to continue Kyleakin’s standard of multipurpose Deerhounds. Of the five offspring Falcon and Chino produced, three already have their Dual Championships, two their ASFA Field Championships, one has her CDX and one numerous Agility and Rally titles, and the one unfinished is major pointed in conformation. Every single one of the five sports at least a Senior Courser title. Three of them have multiple Bests in Field, two are Specialty wins. Rissa’s daughter DC Kyleakin Gremlin CD MC FCh VC, grandson DC Kyleakin Fitzhugh Talkeetna SC FCh, and his son and daughter (out of Margaret’s DC Just So Jostaberry SC, bred by Camilla Colleen, whose foundation bitch is Kyleakin Caracara at Justso, Linnet's daughter) CH Fitzhugh Kyleakin Icarus and FC Fitzhugh Kyleakin Ibis BN CD SC LCX FCh carry on from Rissa. The sisters' lines combine with the breedings of Ica to Torry and Ra. I have kept Vrecka (DC Kyleakin Corryvreckan BN CDX SC VC) and Io (CH Kyleakin Eye of the Storm SC) from Torry's litter. I hope to achieve the Utility title on Vrecka. From Ra's litter with Ica I kept two girls. They are CH Kyleakin Anhinga and CH Kyleakin Kittiwake SC BN. Both were bred to Iadore Torran, a Japanese import from Australian lines, in February of 2021, and each bore four puppies, two males and two females. I kept a bitch from each litter, Starly and Firefly (Kyleakin Starling and Kyleakin Firefly). Vrecka failed to become pregnant and eventually proved to have mucometra, which was not treatable, so she was spayed n the winter of 2020.
